Craig Parmley has been involved with horses most of his life. Growing up, he began showing quarter horses in the mid-1970’s. His love of the halter horse was initially influenced by Steve Ferguson who lived down the street and they both competed in youth competition as young teenagers. In the late 70’s, Craig moved from his Texas home and lived for a while in Springfield, Illinois where he hauled with Tommy and Chris Manion. The time he spent with Tommy Manion was invaluable. Craig learned so much and still considers Tommy the consummate showman. Parmley took a break in the 80’s to attend college, begin his career and pursue his love of travel. He returned to horses in the 1990’s. His program has been thoughtfully guided by Gwen and Jerry Vawter (whom he considers his “surrogate horse parents”). Each of the horses Parmley acquired from Vawter Ranch went on to be multiple World Champions … 2 horses won 4 world titles in the same year.
Parmley has been fortunate and feels blessed, in that, most all of the horses he has owned have been AQHA and APHA World and Congress Champions. Some have won multiple titles in a single show and/or won it across the board. According to Equi-stat, Parmley was AQHA’s # 1 Non-Pro/Amateur Handler (all ages – all divisions) and his horse, Heirs Your Clu, a 2-time World Champion, was ranked # 1 Halter horse and top money earner.
In
2009, Parmley and partner, Ted Walker,
began being guided by his good friend, Clark Rassi, who is the one of the
all-time leading breeder of world champion halter horses. Parmley’s horses are
managed by and located at Clark Rassi Quarter Horses in Aubrey Texas; Ted Turner Equine in Thackerville, Oklahoma: and Steve Ferguson Quarter Horses in Tyler, Texas.
Parmley credits and gives thanks to all those who have helped him along the way, especially his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for his many blessings. He appreciates great horses and strives to acquire, breed and sell only the best. He enjoys meeting new people and continues to be actively involved in the business.
Another passion of Craig and Ted’s is travel. They are always ready to “go” … experiencing new adventures, different cultures, languages, and cuisine. In addition to experiencing new sites, they feel travel allows us the opportunity to look at familiar things with new eyes. The world becomes a smaller place and gives us a chance to see that we have more in common than we sometimes realize. Similar to the horse business, Craig and Ted feel fortunate to have developed meaningful friendships with people from various backgrounds around the world through their love of travel. It’s a wonderful opportunity to build and create lasting memories. As Craig says, “after all … in the end … all we take with us is our memories …. “
